  • Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We're on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need many more people to help us make our vision a reality.

Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £8 billion in renewable energy assets.

We are committed to delivering best-in-class responsible investment activity, offering like-minded investors the means and products to invest their capital sustainably. It is our ambition to change the entire energy lifecycle and make every green electron matter, delivering the best outcomes for customers, investors, the environment and society, accelerating the transition to net zero.

    About this role:

We are looking for an AM Operations Director to build the operating structure around Asset Management as OEGEN continues to grow and manage increasingly complex assets.

The role is about making sure the basics are done well and consistently, without problems repeatedly needing senior intervention. It will take ownership of important work that cuts across funds and functions, where standards already exist but are not consistently embedded, or where there is currently no clear owner.

The successful candidate will help ensure that OEGEN’s scale benefits investors: issues are identified earlier, suppliers are held to account, and lessons from one asset improve how we manage the wider portfolio. They will also support Asset Management leadership in the continual development of our high-performance culture.

The role will evolve with the business. As markets, grid arrangements, regulations, technology and operating models become more complex, the successful candidate will help ensure that the way OEGEN manages assets keeps pace. This may include developing the operating model for new platform businesses, IPPs, revenue functions and technology-enabled ways of working.

    What You'll Do
  • Build and maintain the core operating framework for Asset Management, including clear standards, ownership, governance and reporting across funds, assets and platforms

  • Oversee governance, directorships and other Asset Management governance arrangements

  • Act as the senior Asset Management representative for data and reporting systems, ensuring tools and processes meet business requirements and are adopted effectively. This is not a technical product-owner role

  • Drive consistent implementation of the supplier and contractor performance framework, including the contractor management standard, supplier reviews, competency assessment, PQQ and KYC processes

  • Oversee supplier onboarding and assurance processes, ensuring they are practical, proportionate and consistently applied

  • Own the Asset Management risk-management framework and consolidated risk reporting, improving visibility, escalation and follow-through on material risks

  • Lead the lessons-learned and continuous-improvement process, ensuring recurring issues are translated into changes to standards, guidance and working practices

  • Provide oversight of key central processes that rely on Asset Management input, including precedent contract management, assumption books and other investment or operational standards

  • Identify where changing market conditions, technology or operating models require Asset Management to adapt, and develop practical proposals to support that change

  • What You'll Need
  • Senior Manager or Director level, with 10-15 years’ experience in renewable energy or comparable physical infrastructure

  • Experience in asset management, followed by experience in a portfolio operations, transformation, operational excellence or COO-type role

  • A track record of building or improving portfolio-wide processes and operating frameworks - not solely managing individual assets

  • Demonstrable delivery of systems such as contractor governance, operational risk reporting, supplier assurance, management information or cross-functional improvement programmes

  • Strong understanding of how renewable assets are operated, including third-party asset management, key suppliers, contractual frameworks, operational risks and governance requirements

  • Commercial judgement and pragmatism: able to distinguish between controls that genuinely protect value and unnecessary bureaucracy

  • Experience working across technical, finance, legal, data, fund-management and investment teams, with the credibility to challenge and influence senior stakeholders

  • Strong programme-delivery skills, with the ability to turn broad priorities into clear owners, milestones, decisions and evidence of adoption

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role, including resolving detail where needed, while retaining the judgement to focus effort on the issues that matter most

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain operational issues and recommendations clearly to senior management, Boards and investors
